Much like anything else, GIFs have limitations and pitfalls. Here are several issues that you need to keep in mind. 

1. Size of the GIF Video

As GIF images are images in an image format just like PNG and JPEG, chances are your e-mails might end up in the trash by the spam filters.

2. Not all clients support GIFs in email.

Support for GIFs is almost universal, but some clients with older versions of Outlook (between 2007 and 2016) cannot play GIFs. 

If your readers use Outlook 2007, 2010, and 2013, they will not be able to see the animation. Only the first frame of your message will be visible.

3. Some consider GIFs unprofessional.

Not everyone enjoys GIFs or emojis in e-mails. One can consider e-mail GIFs as offensive or poor-quality content, which can destroy your brand’s reputation and lower your e-mail sender score.

4. Lack of accessibility

Popular GIPHY alternatives include Gyfcat, Tenor, and Imgur (which feature static images too). Social media sites like Tumblr and Pinterest are good places to find business-friendly GIFs. You can also search the web for GIFs with Google Images.

There are a ton of video editing software that can be used to clip a part of a video to convert it into a GIF. Other popular applications can be used to create a GIF.
